We arrived Sunday the 21 via TGV fast train from Paris ...(.the reason I have been so slow in posting is because we have always been doing something) we were going about 180 or more...Took a cab to Pierrck and Stephan's Bar ....there was Pierrick waiting outside the bar for us as they had closed early...honestly so very nice to see him again. We walked a very short walk to the apartment we would stay in for our 6 days....very nice and they have given up to us while they sleep in the basement at the bar..we dropped our suitcases and then walked a short ways to have a meal as we had not eaten since the morning. We all walked along the waterfront up to fort Saint-Jean very interesting for us to see the port all the boats Wow! Monday we started the day at the "bar" with coffee made perfectly by Pierrick ...and croissants from the bakery nearby, that a bar patron by the name of Bernard(frankie) went to pick up for us....he was once a homeless man who came from Paris and was leaving on the street when the local people found out they joined together to help him out, finding him a apartment giving him clothing and food... He runs small errands for Pierrick and Stephan in exchange for a glass of beer or cup of coffee ...
The Bar is a amazing place ..more like a big home then bar...everyone is so friendly the come and go with greetings the French way kiss both sides ..always acknowledging us as well when they enter.I never thought that I could sit in a smoke filled bar ...but....I can no problem. They also have a dog named Czech ...this is one big girl who comes from the Canary Island they were breed to care for the cattle....she is so sweet and greets people...but hates other dogs no matter what size so they must watch her closely ...she is not allowed close to the door unless either Pierrick or Stephan is with her. We have been having such a wonderful time and the greatest visit with Pierrick and learning so much more about his life ....we have made some site seeing walkabout s on our own....Notre dam cathedral on the top of a tallest point overlooking Marseilles....also a walk to Fort Saint Nicolas and then lunch at a table overlooking the port in a nearby park..very lovley. Today Pierrck went with us by train to a Calanque ( bays) that are all along the coast....this one called Niolon ...20 minutes ...so very beautiful ...we had a very nice lunch ....so relaxing ...I think Pierrck was a bit disappointed in the way it was prepared, but for us it was another great experience, especially the tiny baby fish deep fried whole with lemon and garlic mayo...they were very tasty Ha! I will say the very best meal we had here was the one Pierrick prepared for us ....lamb chops grilled and a vegetable casserole of, tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini and onions and for dessert fresh fruit cut up with fresh mint lovely ....meal and we shared a bottle of wine and tried not to get to sloshed Ha! The conversation is always good :) really so Happy to have made the side trip to Marseille....oh! And I should not forget ZuZu the Arabic lady at the bakery a darling....ok some pictures
