Inveraray Castle

Tour of this fine Castle this morning....first one we have been aloud to take pictures inside..the tour guide at the front door told us he trained at Wainwright,Alberta for the Scottish Army I guess he never said and it got busy... .Ancestral home of Clan Campbell ...Earls and Dukes of Argyll...this is the second Inveraray Castle...first one much smaller built 1493 ...the one we saw today was started around 1746 finished in1789 amazing there were two fires one in the 1800 the last in 1975 ....the castle had just been restored in 1953 by the 11th Duke of Argyll and Duchess Margret....the fire I 1975 caused much damage most of it from the torrents of water from the fire hoses ...they say without the help of the people of the town of Inveraray it would have been much worse ...well it is restored today ...the 13th Duke of Argyll and MacCailein Mor Torquhil Campbell his wife Eleanor and their three children live at the castle today...I must say here the tour guides were very knowable ..the paintings were beautiful ...the storage cupboard in the kitchen smart way to keep dry storage organized ....we were told there is a ghost in the bedroom ...I won't go into the gruesome details but she said he was a benevolent ghost
